Privacy Policy

Effective Date: June 9, 2026

This policy explains what data Scute collects, what we don’t, and why. Scute is operated by Scute LLC. If you have any questions, email us at info@scuteapp.com.

The core blocker

The blocking itself runs entirely on your device. The list of apps you opened, when, and for how long is read locally from Android’s usage statistics to enforce your blocks and show your screen-time charts. None of that data leaves your phone, and it’s deleted when you uninstall Scute. Website blocking also runs on a local VPN that doesn’t route your internet traffic through any server of ours. If you enable Unlock Reason on a preset, the text you type to unlock stays on your device and is never saved or sent to us; only the on/off setting and the word count are synced.

Your account

You can create a Scute account three ways: email + password, Google Sign-In, or Apple Sign-In.

Preset sync

So your presets follow you across devices, we store them on our servers tied to your account. That includes the preset name, the apps you picked (as Android package names like com.instagram.android), the websites or URL patterns you blocked, your timer values, your schedule, and your toggles for strict mode, blocking Android settings, and blocking unsupported browsers. This data is only used to sync your presets.

Custom overlay images

If you upload your own image to use as a blocking overlay, we store the image file on our servers and link it to your account so it comes back if you reinstall. We don’t look at, share, or use the image for anything else.

Lifelines

Your remaining lifeline count and the timestamps when your next lifeline refills are stored on our servers so the count survives a reinstall or a new device.

Alert Notifications (opt-in)

If you turn on the Alert Notifications toggle on a preset and give us an email, we store that email and send an alert to it whenever a blocked app or website is opened during that preset. The email is sent through SendGrid and isn’t used for anything else. Turn the toggle off and we stop using the address.

Subscriptions

Payments are handled entirely by Google Play. We only receive confirmation that your subscription or lifetime purchase is active, plus the product ID and expiry. We never see your card, billing address, or name. Refunds go through Google Play.

Crash reports

In release builds we use Sentry to catch crashes and unexpected errors so we can fix them. A report includes a stack trace, app version, your device model and OS, locale, an anonymous installation ID, and short breadcrumbs of recent in-app actions. The email of the session that crashed may be attached. Reports never include your custom overlay images, your blocked website list, or your screen-time data.

Analytics

We use the Meta (Facebook) SDK to measure marketing performance. It logs a small fixed set of events we trigger ourselves: EngagedUser once you’ve started a few blocks, FirstBlockActivated the first time you start a block, and Subscribe or Purchase (with the amount and currency only) when you complete a paid purchase. The Meta SDK also automatically logs standard SDK-level events such as app installs and app opens, and collects your device’s advertising ID. We do not send Meta your presets, your blocked apps or websites, or your email.

Server logs

When the app talks to our backend, our server records the request endpoint, the timestamp, a short-lived auth token tied to your account, and your IP address. We use this only to keep the service running and to prevent abuse. Logs are kept according to our hosting provider’s retention policy and are not used for any other purpose.

Who we share data with

We don’t sell or rent your personal data, ever. We do use a few service providers that store or process specific pieces of it on our behalf:

We will also disclose data when required by law.

Your rights

You can access, correct, export, or delete your account data at any time by emailing info@scuteapp.com. You can also delete your account directly in Settings; when you do, your email and everything tied to it is permanently removed from our servers. If you’re in a region with formal data-protection rights (such as the EU, UK, or California), those rights apply too, and you can also lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.

Children

Scute is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes & contact

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll post the new version in the app and bump the Effective Date at the top. Questions or requests: info@scuteapp.com.
